Looks like GM is set to idle Detroit-Hamtramck Assembly (among others) where cars such as the Impala, Lacrosse, Volt and.... CT6 are produced. Is this the end of the road for the big RWD-based Cadillac flagship sedan? Just as the long awaited CT6-V with that twin turbo V8 is set to make its debut?
The [Reuters] report added that GM will end production of the CT6, LaCrosse, Volt, and Impala [with] the plant closure.
Say it ain’t so GM, PLEASE SAY IT AIN’T SO!

GM is getting to the point where it has almost downsized itself out of existence.
Too bad Mergio isn’t still around, soon
it’ll be small enough that FCA can swallow it up, potentially for the cost of a cheap lease deal on a Fiat 500

Obviously I don’t know how this works on an automotive production level, but couldn’t GM just do some retooling to produce a CUV version of the Volt and a midsized CUV version of the CT6?
Ya know, since utes print monies!
Also, I remember someone making a comment about NASCAR running utes since the Detroit's cars are going away.

Oh the XT6 is coming, but like the XT5, it will share its underpinnings with the Traverse. No RWD or V8 here...

I know no one buys the CT6 and it won’t be missed when it’s gone. Even if they discontinue the CT6 completely, I hope they keep just the CT6 V- Sport version as their halo car.

Shanghai GM to pick up the slack, maybe? I thought the PHEV was built there.

Great, Old GM is back, thinking of making mass produced “luxury vehicles” for a brand that hadn’t shown true luxury since the ‘60's.
Why can’t they just accept that Cadillac needs baby steeps to get back to world renowned greatness, and stop using parts bin sharing that at best would only look good in a Buick ? Let's not forget that their MSRP is at least $10k too high on everything they make.

Well I mean if the tooling is there for the PHEV, it’s not hard to put a 2.0L Ecotec in its place.

FP article just updated GM’s statement
UPDATE: Cadillac did indeed get back to us to confirm that though the CT6 is dying, that won’t stop it from squeezing in production of its upcoming “Blackwing” twin-turbo V8 and accompanying CT6-V model.
A representative explained it stating, “important note – our plans to introduce the V-Series and Blackwing V-8 aren’t impacted by today’s news.”
So our final CT6s will be cool, at least. Cadillac also explained that CT6 production in America will end, but production in China will continue, as will sales over there.
